Bacon Culture was in pork effect today at Bacon Camp 2010 San Francisco at Chez Poulet, which may need to be renamed Chez Cochin unless Chicken John manages to air out the bacon goodness.

What is BaconCamp?

This is the home of collaborative planning for BaconCamp, a celebration of bacon in the spirit of BarCamp.

BaconCamp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment about bacon. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event. It is community driven and everyone is encouraged to participate by presenting (food, art, demo), judging, or volunteering. BaconCamp is not a spectator sport.

Up from the Streets: Bacon Dogs

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

San Francisco’s delightful tattle rag “7×7″ reports on the rise of the bacon wrapped hot dog from the streets of San Francisco, to the highfalutin’ “concession” stands of AT&T Park home of the SF Giants, garlic french fries, Dungeness crab sandwiches and acknowledged as one of the great ballparks to eat at in the US.

“Their hot dog is a haute take on Mexican street food—an all-beef dog, wrapped in bacon and fried on a griddle, then settled into a top-loading bun with chipotle mayonnaise and topped with grilled onions, jalapeños and cucumber pico de gallo. It is maddeningly delicious, good enough to distract you from even the most compelling Giants-Dodgers grudge match.”

When bacon is outlawed, only the outlaws will have bacon.

Sad news from Los Angeles, the vending of the delicious bacon-wrapped hotdog has been banned by the dept. of public health.

“The Department of Public Health in Los Angelas has recently banned the selling of bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Ah, the sweet, salty, taste of health regulation.
This is not the first time in human history that we have produced horrendously unhealthy artery-clogging food.”
Lets hope the “smack of ham” from the long trotter? of the law (groan) doesn’t come down on the San Francisco bacon wrapped hot-dog vending carts too… which we should note get 345 reviews on yelp.com about the same as Fleur de Lys (with 386) one of San Francisco’s most expensive (and overpriced) restaurants…
